The Benny Gold brand started when I was tired of working for other people.
My early career is fairly typical of most graphic designers: Start with the small design firms, then graduate to bigger agencies, move onward and upwards…and finally one day, I found myself working an in-house job at a large corporation and not getting any creative satisfaction out of it. After years of plodding along the corporate timeline, I realized that I was losing sight of the ideas and creative freedom I had once–and still–cherish. I had spent the majority of my 20s working nonstop–and I didn’t want to spend another twenty doing the same thing.
Everything started with just a simple sticker that I posted around town on a day off. The idea for the sticker was inspired by the old mantra, “Stay Gold.” To me, it’s a reminder that all the ideas and experiences that we hold dear are the real gold inside each of us. This is what shapes us, what preserves our sense of self, and what keeps us young. When it came time for me to establish my own brand, I hadn’t wavered from that concept, which is how the Benny Gold brand came to be.
I constantly get asked by people about the trials and tribulations of starting a company. And while there are so many reasons not to take the risk, I can say that it honestly doesn’t take much to get started. I started with a sticker, and I am humbled to see the success of Benny Gold as it has expanded to become an international brand, sold in over a hundred retailers around the world, and with a flagship store and design studio in San Francisco.
Thank you to everyone out there who believes in this as much as I do – stay young til you die!

Cliché Skateboards was founded in 1997 by French pro skateboarder Jeremie Daclin. Never one to buckle under the demands of the mainstream, Daclin has maintained an air of originality in Cliché through the company’s do-it-yourself approach to skateboarding as a brand. From organizing nomadic “Gypsy” skate tours, to collaborating with only the finest in skateboarding and street-wear brands and artists, Cliché has successfully made their mark on the American skateboard scene without ever losing touch with their French origins. The very name of the brand, “Cliché,” is essential to its philosophy as a company: it is one of the few words understood in both French and English that is able to transcend cultural barriers, much in the same way Daclin seeks to transcend geographical ones in skateboarding.
HUF is pleased to introduce its second HUF x Cliché collaboration. This collection consists of a t-shirt, 5-panel volley, Hufnagel Pro shoe, and skateboard deck all featuring custom HUF x Cliché artwork.
The Quiet Life is a small project from Los Angeles that is run by Andy Mueller and Jennifer Pitt. Anthony Garcia joined the team in May 2010.
Here’s a little something about Andy: Andy Mueller was raised in the mid-west on a healthy diet of BMX, skateboarding, music and magazines. At an early age, Andy became addicted to the art of image making and photo taking. In 1993, Andy founded OhioGirl Design, a small design/photo/film studio. In 1997, Andy started “The Quiet Life”, as an outlet for purely creative ideas, with a few friends from within OhioGirl.
Originally producing only one or two designs a year, The Quiet Life has grown into a much larger project. The Quiet LIfe now releases 2 seasons a year with worldwide distribution, produces special designs for Upper Playground’s 50-24-SF artist line and for 2K by Gingham.
In addition to the Quiet Life, Andy works full time at Girl Skateboards as a member of the infamous “Art Dump.”At Girl, Andy’s main duty is to art direct Girl’s shoe company Lakai Limited Footwear, but he also designs skateboard deck graphics to Girl Skateboards and Chocolate Skateboards, shoots photos for Fourstar, Ruby and the other brands within Girl, and contributes elsewhere when time allows. Andy also continues to do freelance photograph, design, and special projects under the name OhioGirl, and co-runs a small “indie” music label called OhioGold Records,
Andy currently lives in Los Angeles with his wife, two cats, bird, and a new baby boy! He also really likes to play ping-pong and recently picked up his golf clubs for the first time in 15 years….
